$1 million lottery prize won by a Clay County man.

Donald West after forgetting to check his powerball tickets like he regularly does, he had won $1 million.

When West checked his ticket he realized he had matched numbers on all five five white balls to win the $1 million prize.

Showing his emotions West told the NC education lottery that he had to check 15-20 times just to confirm it.

Donald bought the ''quick pick'' ticket from the Ingles on US 64 east in Hayesville of $2.

West claimed his prize money of $1 million on Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.

After the deduction of taxes, West took home $710,100.
